Write Tools

Write Tools is a unique toolkit that we developed for US distributor Nelson Education. Through a variety of media, Write Tools gives middle primary teachers support and flexibility to meet their students’ needs and interest in creative writing.

The Write Tools project was an opportunity to prove our knowledge, expertise, and creativity across a variety of media. The resource is a text-based, blended-media writing programme, in both US and standard English, designed to motivate and support intermediate students to develop writing skills and give teachers the confidence to work successfully through a writing programme.

The resource is presented as a colourful, boxed toolkit – a look and feel that emphasises the creativity and fun of writing. It includes a teacher’s guide and CD-ROM of support materials; text cards that allow for whole class, small group, and independent study; an interactive CD-ROM providing independent writing activities in six writing genres; and shared reading resources. The flexible components enable differentiated instruction and sharing between teachers. We selected engaging pieces of text for students to use as writing models and used simple but colourful design that would support learning and inspire creativity.

Write Tools was a finalist in 2006 in the US Association of Educational Publishers (AEP) in both the Distinguished Achievement and Golden Lamp award categories. The Golden Lamp Awards are the educational resource industry’s top honour. The finalists and winners are defined by their superior use of content and design – and the fulfilment of their educational mission.
