The Food and Beverage Classification System

This challenging project involved developing and managing the resources for the Health and Education ministries partnership on a government initiative to promote healthy eating and lifestyle choices.

We worked with the Ministry of Health’s Healthy Eating – Healthy Action (HEHA) project to design, develop, and publish engaging and informative resources for the Mission On campaign. This campaign aimed to bring about a change towards healthy eating practices in Early Childhood Education (ECE) services and schools nationwide.

We developed two folders, one for ECE centres and one for schools. Each contained three resources (a user guide, recipe book, and a guide for school principals and boards of trustees). Our design for these books reflected the way their audiences would use them – for example, the ECE recipe book needed to be very robust. It was printed on waterproof, wipe down, plastic-coated paper, and designed in a tent card format so it could be kept on display. The resources were also designed to both fit into and retain a family look and feel.

All of the resources required an intense series of photo shoots. The time frame for delivery of these resources was extremely tight – from the hand-over of final copy at the end of May to delivery of printed kits for a ministerial launch in mid-July.

The materials have been extremely well-received in ECE services and schools. We have also recently had them translated into Māori.
