Figure It Out wins CLL educational publishing award
The quality of the content and the lively design of the two Figure It Out books Statistics in the Media, Levels 3+–4, and Statistics in the Media, Levels 4–4+, was what particularly impressed the judges in the inaugural CLL (Copyright Licensing Ltd) Educational Publishing Awards 2010. The books won the award for Best Book or Series in Primary Publishing.
The books, written by Lisa Darragh and Jasmine Hardy, teach critical thinking about the media alongside statistics. They are part of an extensive series of more than 80 books that are published by Learning Media for the Ministry of Education.
These new awards, administered by the Publishers Association of New Zealand (PANZ), recognise the important area of textbook publishing and were presented in Auckland on 18 November 2010. The judges acknowledged that writing and designing textbooks is an important skill and is one that New Zealand publishers excel at, not only providing for the local market but exporting learning resources worldwide.
The prize for each category is $5,000, which is shared by the winning publisher and the authors.
